Art et/ou jeu : symbiose ou dissonance ? est une exposition présentée dans le cadre de ISEA 2023 SYMBIOSIS, en tant que commissaire associée avec Lynn Hughes et Catherine Bédard, au Centre Culturel Canadien à Paris, du 16 au 20 mai 2023.

L’exposition présentait les oeuvres de : Disnovation.org (France) – collectif d’artistes lauréats d’ISEA2023, Ahreum Lee (Canada), Enric Llagostera (Canada), Raphaëll Maïwen (Canada), Santiago Tamayo Soler (Canada), Tatiana Vilela Dos Santos (France).

Art et/ou jeu : Symbiose ou dissonance ? est une exposition qui examine certaines pratiques actuelles dans le domaine très dynamique où les jeux expérimentaux rencontrent les pratiques artistiques connexes. Les jeux expérimentaux cherchent à résister à l’hégémonie de l’énorme industrie internationale des jeux numériques en présentant une profusion d’alternatives locales, personnelles et communautaires qui étendent la forme du jeu de manière expressive et critique. 

L’exposition rassemble une sélection d’artistes et de concepteur·ice·s de jeux du Canada et de la France qui ont des approches très différentes de cet espace interstitiel. Les œuvres vont de celles qui sont explicitement politiques et militantes à celles qui intègrent de manière plus implicite et poétique la critique sociale, des formes très figuratives à des formes plus abstraites, et des formats de jeux sur écran plus traditionnels à ceux qui utilisent des interfaces physiques de différents types.

L’œuvre-jeu du collectif Disnovation.org fait partie de la programmation officielle d’ISEA. Ce projet est financé par le programme européen MASC-RISE dans le cadre de la convention de subvention n°101007915.

Les visiteur·ice·s sont invité·e·s à jouer sur place avec tous les jeux présentés dans l’exposition.

The exhibition featured works by: Disnovation.org (France) – collectif d’artistes lauréats d’ISEA2023, Ahreum Lee (Canada), Enric Llagostera (Canada), Raphaëll Maïwen (Canada), Santiago Tamayo Soler (Canada), Tatiana Vilela Dos Santos (France).

Art and/or Game: Symbiosis or Dissonance? is an exhibition that looks at some current practices in the very vibrant area where experimental games meet related art practices. Experimental games seek to resist the hegemony of the huge international digital games industry by presenting a profusion of local, personal and community-based alternatives that stretch the game form expressively and critically. 

The exhibition brings together a selection of artists and game designers from Canada and France with very different approaches to this interstitial space. The works range from the explicitly political and activist to those with more implicit and poetic integration of social critique, from the very figurative to the abstract, and from more traditional screen game formats to ones with physical interfaces of different types.

The game-work by the collective Disnovation.org is part of ISEA’s official programming. This project is funded by the European MASC-RISE programme under grant agreement n°101007915.

Visitors are invited to play on site with all the games presented in the exhibition.
